PILMMA´s Mastermind Group

“I’ve spent lots of money creating TV and print ads to find out that people have been spending a whole lot less and were willing to share.  I’ve been paying to try and reinvent the wheel and found a group that showed me and gave me what would save hours and dollars.  Knowing mastermind is all confident and what’s being shared is only shared internally.  I get honest answers from some very talented people.  The seminar that followed gave me the tools and ideas that I can go back to my firm with- to implement as not just a way to spend money on marketing.”

A letter from Ken Hardison, the founder of PILMMA:

Dear fellow attorney,

I want to talk to you about an unbelievable law firm building tool – masterminding. Perhaps you’ve heard of Mastermind groups, but aren’t even quite sure what they are or if joining one would be right for you. As someone who has been masterminding for several years, let me tell you that joining a mastermind group will prove to be the best decision you can ever make for yourself and your law firm. If you ask the top leaders and CEOs what they attribute their success to, most would credit their Mastermind experiences.

What is a Mastermind group? It can be best described as one part board of directors and one part peer-advisory committee. A Mastermind group is a group of likeminded individuals, typically entrepreneurs and business owners, who come together to contribute to each other’s success. The POWER of the Mastermind experience is that it can lift your mind and vision to enable you to see things that you otherwise could not, most likely because you are too close to your own business.

Here’s the real secret - great minds don’t always think alike! That’s why the most successful leaders in the world turn to Mastermind groups. Just imagine sitting around the table with successful people from many different fields and walks of life and having them freely, openly, and confidentially share what they would do to grow your business.

It’s easy to feel isolated as an entrepreneur and it’s difficult to find peers who understand your challenges and issues. I have personally been enriched with ideas and plans that might otherwise have taken me years to finally figure out on my own, if they would have even occurred to me at all. Think of your Mastermind group as your own personal dream team!

Let me talk to you about two reasons why some people hesitate to join Mastermind groups - time and money. It might be hard to envision dedicating the necessary time to meet with your group, and the monthly fees may be the last thing you think you need to take on. However, in experience Masterminding, I not only benefited enormously from the experience, both in terms of doing more business (reimbursing me many times more than the cost of the fees), but I also started working smarter on my business and therefore, the time I dedicated to each meeting was also dramatically reimbursed.

Behind Closed Doors…. What Really Happens in a Mastermind Meeting?

Experience and numerous surveys have shown that the number one reason for not joining a Mastermind group is a lack of understanding of how a Mastermind group operates. Two specific questions are, “What does a Mastermind group really look like?” and “What will I contribute and get out of it?” The first thing you will notice is that the group meets face-to-face. While virtual Mastermind groups exist, I don’t believe they can compare to a group that meets locally and in person. Cell phones are turned off and all distractions are removed in order to focus on the process.

The second thing you see despite the term “Mastermind”, all members are normal folks like you and me, and there is an incredible feeling of support and camaraderie in the room. Titles, egos and income statements are all checked at the door. The group exists for only one reason - to advance and further the success and wealth of its members as a whole.

As the meetings progress, all members get to share what is going on in their law firm and lives. Each member has the opportunity to present an issue of concern or to bounce a new business idea off the group. You will hear about successes, failures, and business challenges. Prior to becoming a member, you must agree to a strict level of confidentiality, which ensures that meetings are safe havens to openly share experiences and ask questions. Members report on what they have accomplished and implemented since the previous meeting. This accountability is an important part of the Mastermind process and is a useful way to measure progress between meetings. This accountability can be a powerful motivator in taking action in your law firm.

The meeting has a feeling of equality to it. The facilitator makes sure that member interaction is balanced and focused, with no one member taking up too much time. Often, during the members’ presentations, they will share examples of materials they are working on. Seeing and getting these materials is an important benefit of the group, and often members go home with more in their briefcases than they came with. It is not unusual during each meeting to have every member experience at least one, if not more, “Aha!” moments. You will see members feverishly writing down these breakthrough ideas and strategies to take back with them to implement in their law firms. The most successful members ask for specific and direct feedback from the collective wisdom and experience of the group.

There is no doubt that being part of a Mastermind group can help grow your law firm in ways that you can’t even imagine, and at speeds that seem impossible.

“Marketing is a critical element of the business of representing injured clients.  By networking with top marketers in other markets, I have learned invaluable ways to grow my business and at the same time avoided costly mistakes.”

“I have attended and participated in many lawyer marketing seminars including select private lawyer “mastermind” groups.  The members of Ken’s Mastermind Group are extraordinarily experienced and competent which is very refreshing.  Mostly, they are willing to share their inner thoughts and materials.  I have learned more in one day which will more than pay for the cost of my involvement for the whole year, assuming I take action which is up to me.  This is a must for any lawyer serious about getting new cases both from new ideas and in successfully getting clients and past clients referrals for years to come.  Thank you kindly Ken and God Bless.”
