Digital Marketing Deep Dive – What’s Working for Attorneys in 2026

There are an outstanding number of legal digital marketing options in the vast world of marketing. It can be difficult to know at times what is working for law firms and why. Consultwebs has prepared a mid-year report detailing exactly what we are seeing attorneys have success with this year.

The State of Digital Marketing August 2026

Looking back on 2025 and half of 2026, law firms navigated significant shifts in legal digital marketing strategies and execution. Moving forward, attorneys can expect the continuous emergence of new technologies, updates, and shifts. We saw several changes happen with Visibility in Search, AI SEO, and Social Media.

What’s Working?

Search engines evaluate sites using Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness (E-E-A-T) rather than backlinks and keywords alone. Branding has also never been more important for law firms than now.

Throughout this article, you’ll discover ways to enhance E-E-A-T and your brand.

Visibility in Organic and AI Search

AI is everywhere – Large Language Models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT are household names that prospective clients ask questions to every single day, including when searching for service providers like attorneys. AI Overviews have also led to an increase in zero-click searches, meaning that when a user searches, often their answer can be found in the top of the search without having to click into a link for information.

So how can law firms stay relevant and keep up in this new age of visibility?

Law firm websites need specific formatting to appear in AI answers:

  • Use direct Q&A formats to address client questions.
  • Write precise answers using varied page layouts.
  • Include citations for statistics or legal statements.

Off-page factors also affect how AI systems source firm details:

  • Audit legal directory profiles so Name, Address, and Phone (NAP) details match everywhere.
  • Combine traditional media releases with digital campaigns for added exposure.
  • Track traffic that comes from AI platforms.
  • Utilize social media to send strong brand signals.

Social Media and Paid Ads Updates

Paid and organic social media both saw changes in late 2025 and early 2026. Social platforms act as data sources for AI discovery engines. One of the most notable changes was that LinkedIn remains a top citation spot for AI visibility, consistently lingering in the top 5 sources.

How can my law firm increase AI Visibility with LinkedIn?

  • Create a monthly newsletter and stay consistent with it. This helps build an audience and establishes your law firm as a trusted source of authority on your chosen topic.
  • Write LinkedIn articles from your personal page. Articles are one of the strongest methods for being cited in AI Search and establishing credibility in your name, which is then tied to your business page.
  • Encourage employee engagement and activity on the business page. This helps establish the validity of your business page, as well as building a positive reputation for the firm.
  • Regularly network and engage with peers. The more individuals who endorse, interact with, and support your profiles, the more trusted a brand you become.

Video Marketing

We have long preached the importance of video marketing for law firm branding, and it remains ever-crucial today. In fact, YouTube is another platform that consistently ranks as a top 5 citation source for AI visibility.

When it comes to video formats, different types perform distinct roles.

  • Short-form vertical video targets social feeds for quick answers and brand recall.
  • Long-form video explains legal details and presents client testimonials.

In a six-month campaign, law firm Levine & Slavit posted three to four videos per month. The results? Their campaign reached nearly 4 million impressions – powerful branding and reach. Setting aside a couple of hours per month can drastically improve a law firm’s reach.

Don’t Wait Until It’s Too Late

Legal marketing relies on adapting to change in search engine updates, social media, and overall potential client behavior. Consultwebs excels in predicting these trends before they happen, as noted in our 2026 Predictions book (and its companion review of what we guessed correctly).

It’s clear that law firms that adjust and adopt new methods early will win.
