You already know that consistently posting valuable content on your law firm blog is crucial to your success. But you, just like thousands of other attorneys, also know the frustration and pressure you feel with not only coming up with good topics, but also writing that ‘traditional’ 350-500 word article for your blog. Ugh … boring!
How would you like to make your blogging a little bit easier and a little more fun?
The idea behind this article is to help you find alternative ways to create valuable written content that isn’t in the form of a ‘traditional’ article. I’ll bet that as you read through these 13 ways to create buzz on your law firm blog, your creative juices will start flowing and you will come up with all kinds of great content that you can easily put together for your blog.
I encourage you to read through this list and pick out 2-3 kinds of posts that will make your blogging a whole lot easier. When you have mastered one kind of post, pick another and soon it will be super easy for you to whip up a new piece of content in no time.
Also remember that while we are focussing here on written articles, you can also use these ideas with video or audio posts and even visual graphic (i.e. infographics) posts.
Get creative, jot your ideas down and stray away from creating the typical, traditional, bullet point article of 350-500 words.
#1 Freebie Post
Create a post that invites your law blog visitors to subscribe to a free gift – perhaps a free report, a free book or other item (get creative!)
Share this post regularly on your social media, encouraging people to visit your blog to get access to this free item. Not only does this increase your blog traffic, it also helps you build a database of potential clients.
#2 Predict a Trend
Can you predict how something in your practice area will change in the future? Perhaps a piece of legislation will change in the coming years or the number of people experiencing X will increase?
Share your prediction on a blog post and provide background details as to how you came to this prediction. People will find your post interesting and it may inspire them to post their comments. Depending on your prediction, you may ‘stir the pot’ a little bit. A little controversy every now and then can be a good thing.
#3 Share a Presentation
Have you given a live presentation recently that you can share on your blog? Perhaps you have an audio or video recording that you can post, a webinar recording or even a summary of key points you shared on a presentation? If it’s a short clip, simply post it for anyone to watch/listen. However, if you offer something a little more meaty, consider asking people to subscribe to receive the full presentation. (Again, assisting you with capturing the names of potential clients.)
#4 The Best Of …
If you’ve been writing on your blog for a while, you likely have several blog posts on similar topics. Consider creating a ‘best of’ blog post that lists the best blog posts on a specific topic? You can link to the other posts on your blog so people can easily refer to them (linking to other posts is also great for your blog’s SEO).
#5 Top 10 Websites
Do you have a list of 5 or even 10 websites that you frequently visit or ones that you continuously recommend to your clients? Perhaps they provide great information not just for you, but for the general consumer as well? Bundle these up and offer a post that simply lists the websites and why you recommend them.
#6 Law Firm Update
What’s new in your law firm? Have new employees joined your team? Share a creative post with updated news in your law firm and include pictures, a real story or anything else that relates to the update. Your website visitors will feel more connected to you when you provide a more personal side to your blog.
#7 Compare It
Why should a consumer invest in your law firm over another? What benefits and features do you offer that no one else compares to?
What do you think about creating a post where you compare your law firm’s features and benefits to one of your competitors? If possible, include a detail or two where your law firm is not the best solution for a potential client – this will help build trust by your website visitors. If they see that you’ve positioned yourself as the best in everything, they will become skeptical and not trust you as much.
#8 Show Your Sensitive Side Consumers want to know that you understand them. Why not write a post where you let your sensitive side come out – share that you understand some of the pain they’re going through and the feelings they are experiencing. Perhaps share a few tips to help them get through a challenge or difficult time.
You may be surprised at how many people will appreciate this lighter side of you and feel more drawn and connected to your law firm because of this sensitive side.
#9 Breaking News Story … and How it Relates
Is something going on in the news that pertains to your legal specialty? Consider writing about these events and adding your perspective that may assist your audience (i.e. provide value) or perhaps you can poke fun and make it entertaining. Either option shows that you are up-to-date on what’s happening around you and how it relates to your legal focus. There may be a learning lesson or two that can come from the story.
#10 Survey Says …
Would you like to get real information from the real people who visit your legal blog? Consider posting a quick and simple survey or poll on your blog and invite people to respond. You can share it with your current clients, via your newsletter to your subscribers, via social media and also with those who visit you in-person.
Once you’ve collected your responses, you can post the results via another blog post. ← bonus tip!
#11 A Belly Laugh Does Everyone Good
On LawMarketing.com we post a piece of legal humor every Sunday to showcase the lighter side of law. You can do the same on your blog. Pick a day to post a cartoon or a joke that will bring a smile to someone’s face and minimize the seriousness of their situation.
#12 Best Resources …
Do you find yourself continuously referring your clients to a few books, organizations or influential people? Consider a post that simply outlines the 10 best books to read if you’re dealing with X or the top organizations to learn more about if you’re dealing with a specific kind of issue. People will appreciate this information when they are dealing with difficult circumstances.
#13 Everyone Loves the Checklist
Checklists are typically easy to write and often a favorite for a blog reader. Consider creating a checklist for various challenges your prospect would likely deal with based on the area of law you specialize in.
Did you brainstorm potential posts as you read through this list above? Which of these posts have you already implemented into your law firm blog and which (top 2-3) do you want to implement in the next 2 weeks?
