Reading Time: 3 minutes

My wife and I just got back from a 3-week trip to Europe. Our first, ever. Through the years, we’ve traveled all over the country hosting PILMMA events, but this trip was a personal bucket list topper, with stops in London, Dublin, Edinburgh, Paris, and many parts in between. I can honestly say that for the entire 3 weeks, I didn’t touch anything work-related. No work texts. No emails. No consult calls. Nada. For three solid weeks, my days and nights were centered around experiencing the world around me – taking in the sights and sounds of places I’d never been before but always dreamed of experiencing. It was phenomenal. And now that I’m back home, I’m supercharged and ready to dive into my work with fresh ideas and new perspective. But my whirlwind trip of a lifetime also has me thinking about all the law firm owners who are putting their personal bucket list experiences on hold in order to build their law firms….

One of the reasons I started PILMMA was to share the strategies and insights that law firm owners need so you can build a law firm that gives you more growth, more profits, and more freedom – and so you don’t have to wait until you are in your 60s to start living out your own bucket lists.

You may be thinking it’s impossible – that there is no way you could leave your office for 2 or 3 weeks without things in your firm going to hell in a handbasket. But the truth is you can and should have a law firm that runs like a fine-tuned machine. It isn’t impossible. In fact, it is completely doable. I have quite a few PILMMA Mastermind members who are doing just that! They have thriving law firms that allow them to leave their firms for weeks at a time so they can take trips with their families and loved ones. You don’t have to be married to your law firm. There is a better way.

It is my hope for every attorney reading this blog, that your law practice is running in a manner that allows you to pursue your own bucket list – to be able to step away from the office and spend weeks pursuing things you love with the people you love.

And here’s the thing – building a streamlined and scalable law firm doesn’t require “magic” of any kind. It isn’t a matter of chance or luck. Instead, it boils down to creating systems and processes, delegation, and building a management team that operates within a strong culture you create. Yes, there’s up-front work involved, but the ROI is a sustainable work-life balance that will allow you to live out your bucket list instead of just dreaming about it.

If you don’t have the systems in place, and management in place that allows you to leave your office for three weeks, safe in the knowledge that cases are still being signed and settled and that your law firm is still moving forward even when you aren’t there to run the show, then do something about it!

Having a law firm that can run and run well, without you being involved in day-to-day affairs isn’t a pipe dream or an impossibility.  Many of our PILMMA Mastermind members have just that kind of law firm and are able to take long trips with their families, creating those precious memories we all want. You can and should have that kind of law practice, and if you don’t, then make this the year that you turn things around.

If you are stumped about how to make this happen, then reach out to me, and together we can create a plan to get you there. And if you’ve wondered whether you should invest in PILMMA’s Mastermind program, then make this the year you finally take that important step. You deserve to have a law firm that does excellent work, while also giving you the profits and freedom that allows you to have a life outside of your office and that’s exactly what our Mastermind groups will help you achieve.
