Do you want 2016 to be a year that your law firm grows and becomes more profitable? Most law firm owners will answer with a resounding YES! The key to making it happen in 2016 is to work on your practice more this year and less in your practice.
If you are finding yourself working long hours and constantly putting out fires on a daily basis then please continue reading.
You see I was exactly in the same place back in the late 90’s. I wasn’t a great delegator because I figured I could do it better and quicker than getting someone else to do it. I had very few systems in place. I was making a decent living but had no life. I was always stressed and tired most of the time.
The defining moment was when I read Michael Gerber’s Book, “E Myth” I read it three times in less than a weeks’ time. The basis of the book is that you should systematize your business with processes and procedures and make time each week to work on growing your business. So I set aside 10 hours per week (2 hours each day) to work on marketing and systemizing my law practice. I started delegating more as I had processes to guide my lawyers and staff on how I wanted that task or project done.
Two things happened to me and my law practice over the next 18 months.
- My work week went from 60 to 70 hours to 35 – 40 hours.
- My profits soared dramatically.
You can do the same thing for yourself and your law practice. First, read “The E Myth”. Secondly, set aside 8 to 10 hours per week to work on your practice. Happy New Year!
